I've seen the people
My people
A thousand times over
As we suffered

Father, I have no faith
Father, I have no god
Father, I have no family
Father, I have no honor

I could not save my kingdom.
I could not save myself.

Do you see me here?
Do you see my fear?

I fought for you Father
For King and Country
Yet you killed Mother
For King and Country

And now here you stand?
And again raise your hand?

FATHER!
I am not your child anymore!
FATHER!
I am not the prince you sought anymore!
FATHER!
I am not of the noble lineage any longer!
FATHER!
I AM NOT THE SON YOU ONCE HAD!

You broke me in two father
Cast me into another world
As you tore away my mother
I became less than my blood

I cannot not save my people.
I cannot save my soul.

For the dragons shame is worse than death
Yet you brought fear and pain and loss to me
You tore away all of my birthright and kingdom
All for the sake of power and glory to your own

As I watched you spill the blood of my friendships
I learned the truth is there is only death in the end
As I watched you spill the blood of our people
I learned there is a not a rule we will not break

What will you say to the millions we killed?
What will you do with the blood you spilled?
What will you say to my ravaged mother?
What will you do with the world you conquer?

I've been lost for so long.
I've been gone for too long.

We are taught to show no fear, show no pain
Do you see what you've done to your own blood?
We bleed just like those we murdered
Do you see now we are not supreme beings?

Shame and disgrace are my name now father
There is no honor or power left in my soul
As you stand here father, I admit my defeat

I could not save my kingdom.
I could not save myself.

I cannot save my people.
I cannot save my soul.

I've been lost for so long
I've been gone for too long

This youngling has done the worst in him
This man has failed to uphold all beliefs

Mother, I beseech thee
Forgive my weakness
Forgive my foolishness
Forgive my shame

And take thy king's name
Curse it with every breath
As I curse my own lineage
Curse everything hereafter

The cracking of bone. It was a sound he'd grown so accustomed to hearing. He was a man who was not afraid to inflict the worst he could into his every foe. But now, he was finally aware of what it felt like to have your body shattered. The massive warrior, dressed regally, drenched in blood before him, took his hand and snapped it like a twig. He felt his arm fall limp as he was kicked back against the stone. Where was his weapon? Where was his spear? His sword? His shield? As Seth slowly raised himself, spitting up blood and gasping for air, he realized he had just lost all of his defenses. All of his ambitions. All of his purpose. No...he hadn't lost them just now. They had already been lost long ago when he was still a child. It simply took him all these years to finally realize it.

As Seth stood, he raised his bloodied face slowly, his vision red with the thick crimson liquid. He looked at this father, a man twice the size he was, a man so strong and powerful that Seth, the prince of the dragon lineage, could not even scratch his skin. He looked at the king of the people Seth was born to serve and lead, and screamed. The king crossed his arms and watched as Seth rushed at him with his unbroken hand raised in anger.

Seth's fist collided with his father's chest. He didn't even budge, and the man slapped him away with the back of his hand like a fly. Seth fell back painfully against the floor. Again the pain, and he stood once more, but this time he would not fight.

"Pathetic. Is this really my lineage? My blood. That wench must have tainted you more than I thought."

"DO NOT TALK ABOUT HER!" Seth screamed, for once his regal composure and calm voice lost completely in utter rage. "Do NOT....speak of my mother like that..." Seth's eyes burned with hatred, but it was a weak flame. His threats were hollow. He had no strength left, and his father knew it.

"It is such a shame you had to side with these weak, pathetic fools. Maybe you could have been a...'decent' footsoldier."

"I would never...ever side with you, father. Or these...these people. These arrogant bastards that we call our family!" Seth staggered for a moment, but quickly re-adjusted his balance. "My people are strong. My people are noble. These savages that kill and maim for pleasure are not the noble dragons that I was born into!"

"Wrong. We are the noble beings we were always meant to be, Seth." His father spoke. He took a footstep forward, and the sound it made as it hit the stone floor filled Seth's ears like thunder. He took a step back without realizing it. "We dragons, we are powerful. We are creatures of pure raw strength and magic - we are above and beyond the creatures of this frail universe! We were meant to rule, Seth! We were meant to become the vehicles of destruction for the weak and the rulers of the strong!"

"WE ARE NO DIFFERENT!" Seth screamed back, once again struggling to remain standing. "Father...we are a people of honor. Not just through combat, but also through peace. You robbed me of all honor as a child, just so you could keep your kingdom. I never wanted to rule father - I just wanted a better time for our people. A time without hatred or starvation or death and war..." Seth stumbled as he took another step back, his father still moving forward. "But of all the atrocities you had me commit in my foolishness...I have no greater shame than that for the countless humans I slaughtered in your name. They were unarmed, they were incapable of fighting those with our strength. They were not worthless beings - they were fearful of us. In all my time in exile, I see we are not above them. We are the same. Our actions have, in fact, made us less than them..."

At this, his father reacted. He felt a massive, boulder-like fist pound into Seth's stomach. A ribcage that a tank shell could not break, bones that steel could not cut, were pulverized in an instant. Seth choked up blood as he fell to the ground.

"Do not ever say that about my people!" The king roared, and looked down upon Seth's crumpled heap. "We are strong. Stronger than anything. Rulers of everything! And with Alcalderim...we will become even more! Divine beings as we are rightfully meant to be!"

Amidst the king's rants of glory, and Seth's bloody coughs and gasps, he managed to utter out his last words. "I have failed..."

Every aspect of his life came full circle in his mind. The slaughters he lead. The people who hailed him. The king who betrayed him. The mother he loved...and the father who killed her right in front of him.

He had come to this world an arrogant fool...but they showed him the truth. They showed him what had to be done, and in the final hour he failed to uphold his word.

"Nazerath...grant this fool one last wish..." Seth whispered to himself as he saw his father's heel raise above his head. "Kill them. The dragons. They have no heart anymore." He closed his eyes, as he heard the king scream. "They will simply kill all. Please destroy my lineage, my mistake..."

Though in his heart, Seth doubted even Nazerath would be able to stop this beast.

There are a LOT of epic battles in my story. At least, I hope they'll be epic. Seth's struggle with his own people is just one of the major conflicts. Each of the major characters have a nemesis from their past - a member of their family - who has caused them considerable trauma as a child and side with the story's main villain.

But yes - there is going to be some pretty epic clashes between some scaly, winged death machines.
